1. Will I really learn how to how to clean the glass so that there will not be any streaks and swirls?

Yes! Streaks and swirls come from wiping the glass after applying spray cleaner solution. You never remove all of the dirt into the wiping cloth. Some dirt remains on the glass. The streaks and swirls are caused by the remaining dirt. When you apply the liquid window cleaning solution to the glass with the scrubber, it lifts the dirt up into the solution. Then the squeegee removes the solution with the dirt trapped in the solution. That is why you can have clean windows with no streaks using a professional squeegee.

2. How long will it take me to learn how to clean my windows?

After you have read the manual, and you have your tools and supplies ready, it will take about ten to fifteen minutes to start enjoying clean windows.

3. How hard is it to use the professional tools to do window washing?

The professional tools have handles similar in size to small garden tools. The tools are easy to handle and control. They also work well because they are designed for professionals. You will find the tools pictured in Chapter 2 and Chapter 7.

4. Should I get more than just the scrubber and the squeegee?

I sure would. A belt-mounted scrubber holder is a great item. A holster for your extra squeegee is a good idea, too. A tote-tray (convenience caddy) is a lot easier to work out of instead of a pail.

5. How much will the minimum amount of equipment cost?

To purchase a scrubber and a squeegee will cost about USD$ 20. Remember to purchase a few extra squeegee rubbers at about USD $2.00 each. You will have many of the other items already in your home.

6. Where can I purchase the professional window cleaning tools?

The basic tools, the squeegee and the scrubber, can be purchased at the following places: window cleaning equipment suppliers, janitorial supply stores, industrial supply stores, hardware stores, home centers. There are some window cleaning suppliers on the Internet. Most have a minimum order of about USD $50. There will be additional shipping charges. You may want to order some of the extra tools from them that are not available from other sources.

7. How long will it be before I get to a good speed when I clean my windows?

Of course, you will not be very fast at this in the beginning. Your speed will increase as you do more windows. A window that takes you three minutes the first time will get down to about one minute after some practice. Getting all the paint and tough spots off during the first cleaning will take more time. After several cleanings, you should be able to do the job in a little over half of the time of the first cleaning. Keep in mind that there is time in setting up, moving the ladder, furniture, etc., to get to the window.

8. How long will it take me to clean the various size windows the first time?

It will vary depending upon your own particular pace. As a general rule, it will take a longer time for the first cleaning. These times include some minor scraping with a razor to remove the stubborn spots. The time is per side (first time).

Small square 12" x 12" .3m x .3m 3 minutes
Medium square 24" x 24" .6m x .6m 3 minutes
Large square 36" x 36" .9m x .9m 4 minutes
Extra Large 60" x 84" 1.5m x 1.5m 9 minutes
Sliding Glass Doors 36" x 84" .9m x 2.3m 6 minutes
French Panes 6" x 6" .15m x .15m 2 minutes

Second floor windows will take about double the time as on the first floor when cleaning the exterior of the window.

9. How long will it take to clean my windows the second and third time I do them?

Your time will decrease to about 75% on the second cleaning. It will decrease to about 50-60% with the third cleaning. Therefore, if it takes four hours to do the first cleaning, you will probably be down to between two and three hours. These figures will vary depending on how quickly you are able to set up and move around the house. Some things that slow you down on the inside are furniture, drapes, knick-knack items, and window grilles. On the outside, you have to deal with bushes, flowers, trees, stepladder and ladder movement and placement. Familiarity with what needs to be done and experience will be the main factors in reducing the cleaning time.

10. I have aluminum combination storm windows. How long do they take to clean?

The aluminum combination storm window set (two glass and one screen) and the house windows (a single pane over a single pane) will take about 30 minutes to clean the first time. Subsequent cleanings will average about 20 minutes. It is best to remove the storm windows and clean them outside of the house. Sliding them up and down in place in order to clean them is not very effective. Removal of the storm windows and the screen works the best.

11. I have some high windows that I am not able to reach. How can I find a professional window cleaner in my area?

The International Window Cleaning Association has a member listing of professional window cleaners in each state in the USA, provinces in Canada, and many countries around the world. Perhaps there is one near you. There is a link in the ebook that connects to the IWCA.

12. Will this book hurt the professional window cleaning industry?

I do not believe so. There are not that many professional window cleaners doing residential work. One professional can only do about 200-300 homes in a year working continuously. This takes into account that he may be able to do two small homes in one day and take two days to do a very large home. Many homes are done twice a year. In 1999, there were 102,000,000 households, of which, 64,000,000 are separate structures. (Source: US Census Bureau)

13. What is the Adobe PDF?

The Adobe PDF is a software program that puts information in a Portable Document File. Briefly, it makes it easy for you to download and for you to easily access the information contained in that file. It allows you to ZOOM in on words and pictures. You can print out whatever parts of it that you choose. It also contains hyper-links from the table of contents directly to the chapter or sub-heading. That way you will not have to scroll through the whole book to find what you want.

14. Why are you selling this valuable information for such a reasonable price?

  1. There is a very large market for this book. Almost everyone has windows and mirrors that need cleaning on a regular basis.
  2. I want to make it affordable for anyone to be able to purchase it. This ebook is available worldwide.
  3. No printing charges, no mailing fees, and no handling fees. I do not have to hire people for these duties. This reduces costs.
  4. I want it to be available for you, immediately.

15. Is there room for me to start up a window cleaning business in my area?

I believe there is room for many more professional window cleaners, especially in residential areas. In America, there are over 30,000,000 homes valued at $100,000 or more. You only need 200-400 customers. Customers will give you referrals. This will help you build your business more quickly.

16. How long does it take to get the customers?

It depends on the amount of effort you are willing to put in to build the business. The more prospects you talk to, the more customers you will get. Everybody needs their windows cleaned.

17. How long will it be before the business is self-sustaining?

My business became self-sustaining in about two years. With the advantages gained from the ideas in the book, I believe it is possible to become self-sustaining in about a year of full time effort. Keep in mind, you will be earning money as you do it.

18. How hard is it to bid the jobs and figure the time to do the job?

With the six Estimating Sheets, which contain the prices for most every kind of window, you will be able to do a bid in about ten minutes. I tell you a very quick and easy way to figure the time it will take to do a job.

19. How much bookkeeping is required?

In the book, I explain about keeping track of calls, prospects, bids, customer cards, mileage cards, and expenses. It is not difficult. I have made it easy with examples in the text.

20. How do I handle the taxes?

I explain that, also. I show you how much you should set aside to take care of the taxes. A CPA can set you up to pay the quarterly taxes to the IRS. It is not difficult.
